Course Content

You’ll begin your coaching on a world-class private driving facility, away from the limitations of public roads. This will enable you to develop and consolidate many high performance driving techniques, ensuring that you enjoy the full performance of your vehicle whilst safely knowing its limitations. Following on from the contained environment of the tracks, you’ll then learn how to apply the skills you’ve mastered to the open road, for total control on every journey.

Total Control Masterclasses are bespoke to each customer’s objectives (however specific or nebulous they may be), existing ability and, indeed, their car. So, whether you want to gain the confidence to fully enjoy your first powerful car, or are already highly experienced and knowledgeable but wish to build upon your skills, we will tailor your course to best suit you. It may well include:

Knowledge

Creating a solid foundation on which to build your skill, you’ll gain essential knowledge of how your car will react to your inputs through the steering wheel and pedals. For instance, we will help you:

Gain an understanding of how physical forces act on your car and how your actions as a driver can impact how it moves; including how even subtle weight transfer either assists or compromises your steering.

Learn how to ‘read the road’ and accurately plan corners: taking them at the right speed, with well-judged turn-in points, apexes and exits.

Understand how best to use your transmission, whether through rev-matching and heel-and-toe downshifts in a manual, or accurate paddle-shifting in an automated manual. This has the benefit of making you mechanically sympathetic, and fully immersed in the process of really driving your car (as opposed to merely travelling in it).

Develop an understanding of emergency avoidance techniques, in case ever needed, plus best use of active safety technology and various driving modes (as fitted).

On Track

Having built a foundation of knowledge, we’ll rapidly advance your practical skills and techniques to create an engaging driving style that is smooth, swift and safe. You’ll have the opportunity to develop:-

Your use of all primary controls to master performance driving techniques, including fast cornering, trail braking and the option of left foot braking (if appropriate).

Management of weight transfer and vehicle balance, optimising stability and grip for total control.

Skid control and avoidance, plus optional wet weather handling to give you well-founded confidence in your car, your tyres, and your own ability.

If desired, we’ll help you master the graceful art and often addictive finesse of power-sliding (drifting).

Emergency avoidance techniques, to build upon your muscle memory to instantly escape other road users’ mistakes, should you ever need to.

Skills that prepare you for track days or competitive driving, if appropriate.

On Road

Transferring everything you’ve learnt and mastered on track to the open road. We’ll cover:

Optimising how you use the road in many different conditions to enhance safe progress, stability and grip.

How to effectively manage space and time, creating your own ‘safety bubble’ and escape routes that protect you, any passengers, and your car.

Accurately judging the optimum line and safe speed through corners, based on what you can and cannot see.

How to positively influence the decisions and actions of other road users for your own safety (and theirs too).

Advanced observation, anticipation and planning skills, to help you always be in the right place at the right time.

Mastering safe, polite and appropriate overtaking techniques on all road types.

Taking full command of your wider driving environment, not just your car.

Driving Track Information

Millbrook Proving Ground: Specifically designed and built for rigorously testing and developing new cars (including a good many high-end sports cars).

The various test tracks are far more useful for high performance driver coaching than any racing circuit, let alone old airfield.

General Format – All Courses

High performance driver coaching that is all about you and your car

Courses are available Monday to Saturday.
Your course will be just that, yours. We never expect you to share any element of your course with other clients.
Training is usually run on a one-to-one format, though you are welcome to share your course with a partner if desired.
We can also accommodate group courses using several or more trainers; ideal for owners’ clubs etc.
Your car will have individual handling traits which are important to understand, hence all training will be conducted in your own car, for ultimate benefit.
