Over the years I have been on many so called track days and high performance driving days. But nothing like the two days spent so far with the professionals at Total Car Control.

They have a very professional approach, with their guidance and support coming from many years’ experience of using and training in performance cars, and their knowledge is second to none.

I would recommend the Total Car Control team to anyone, with or without a performance car. It’s a must if you want to make the most of your car.

A very big thank you for the 2 days spent with me at Millbrook and on the road. I’d had no driving training since passing my test 36 years ago, and having bought a nice car I thought I really should learn how to drive it properly. Well, if you had told me in advance the amount I would learn in the two days I would never have believed you – my driving has become so much smoother, safer and more enjoyable since the course, and the technical and observational skills you taught me have made a fantastic difference already.

For anyone considering taking this course I would advise you to do it – you don’t need to be a petrol-head or boy racer (I’m definitely neither) to get a lot out of it. The opportunity to experience understeer and oversteer in a safe environment, learn trail-braking and left-foot braking is not to be missed, and also not as hard as it sounds. Ivan instils confidence, and you will get so much more out of your car, even in day-to-day driving conditions. Very best wishes.

Two fantastic days and I can’t imagine a better way to learn about your car and develop your own skills. If you’re worried about your car, don’t be – it’s stretching but mechanically sympathetic, only exploring what your car was built to do.

If you’re worried about yourself, don’t be – you’ll start learning from about 5 minutes in and whilst it might be a little humbling at times it’s a tremendously valuable experience and you’ll come away a much better driver than when you arrived, for sure.

My course was exciting, useful, safe and hugely enjoyable from start to finish. Most of all I left loving my 911 even more than I did when I started and knowing what I had learned would help me enjoy it far more in the future.

Many people spend a lot of time and money on either buying high performance cars or modifying existing ones in their ownership, forgetting about the single biggest improvement, the driver. I am part of the latter and with a 3.5 litre 350bhp+ MR2 with no Traction Control, VSC or driver aids, it can get a little interesting at times.

Doing a Total Car Control Dynamic Handling Masterclass at Millbrook was not only eye-opening, but also very reassuring. On the public roads no good driver should be pushing anywhere near the envelope of grip of their vehicle and even on track there are limitations. Being able to explore the limits of grip in a safe environment with Ivan gave me not only confidence in my own ability but also the car’s ability, and quashed many of my own preconceptions as to the handling of the car. I feel happier and safer behind the wheel on the road or at speed, with much less driver input and better results.

However, any good and well planned class is only as good as the teacher, and this is where Ivan really comes up trumps. He is informative but not long winded, has multiple methods and teaching techniques at his disposal and countless resources. It really is a case of the teacher can make all the difference. A big thank you Ivan for all his hard work and for putting up with me for the day and I can only recommend others his way. Best wishes, and will hopefully see you again soon.

Another successful high performance training day to build on the first, which seamlessly picked up from where the last session ended. Ivan and his team have a great ability to quickly develop drivers’ skill, safety and confidence; firstly explaining the theory and principles, then patiently coaching precise techniques and skills to help your brain put it all into action on the track!

The training techniques are exceptional, using all possible senses to help feel completely connected to the car and making smooth transitions to gain complete control when cornering, braking and accelerating. Coupled with vision alignment and better planning, this saw my lap times tumble whilst enjoying total control. It’s such a sensational feeling to have the car drifting gently through corners, on the limit of grip and with the throttle floored… I’m still grinning a week later! Moreover, I have gained even greater confidence in my Maserati, based on firmly ingrained knowledge and skill to safely enjoy its performance.

Being able to explore traction thresholds and how the car handles at the limit in the safe confines of Millbrook has undoubtedly added to my everyday safety on the road, so that I can enjoy it with confidence all year round. In short, this training is invaluable and a must for anyone who wants to fully enjoy owning and driving a sports car.

The Porsche 911 is my first fast car and I wanted my own performance to match that of the car. So after a lot of research on driving courses I decided that a track day would not be of benefit to me. Instead, I felt I would benefit much more from a one-to-one tailored high performance driving course where I could gain more useful experience.

I am very pleased that I chose TCC and, in a nutshell, can thoroughly recommend Ivan as he delivered exactly what I wanted out of my 2 day Total Control Masterclass. This was not just how fast I could drive in a straight line or around a track, but more the principles of driving quickly yet safely when real world conditions allow. I now understand my 911 much better and have gained the knowledge and techniques to fully enjoy it every day; something which I look forward to continue building on with Ivan over the years to come.

Having recently purchased my Jag XKR, I was fully aware that this car had some serious power which I wanted to enjoy but remain respectful of. To that end, I wished to try and learn more about the car’s capabilities and, just as importantly, my own, as I recognise that despite 35 years of driving experience there would be lots I could still learn, particularly in a car like this.

And learn I certainly did. Having chosen Ivan from TCC out of a few seemingly similar companies on the web I cannot speak highly enough about the training he provided me with on a one to one basis. I chose the Total Control Masterclass of 2 separate days, the first day at the Millbrook Proving Ground and then a few weeks later transferring the skills picked up there to real life driving on ordinary roads. The different elements at Millbrook of the handling circuit, figure of 8, high speed bowl, mile straight and Alpine road route made that day unforgettable and hugely useful for a safe driving experience whilst learning new techniques.

Ivan was quick to point out areas of my driving that I could improve on and seemed to be able to spot exactly where my feet, hands and eyes were at all times! Learning proper observation skills was a massively important part of the whole course. There was so much useful information passed on over the 2 days it was incredible. Ivan has this capability of instilling great confidence in a calm and considered manner. Whilst never pushing me to the point where I ever felt unsafe in my own car, Ivan certainly took me out of my comfort zone, but I quickly realised that the car and myself were perfectly capable of handling those situations and I actually felt considerably more in control, creating a smoother drive for doing so. I was introduced to trail braking and braking with my left foot! Now I am starting already to use these techniques where appropriate on roads I drive on every day, leading to a definite enhancement in the car’s balance and therefore hugely improving the driving experience. Amazing!

All in all, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ivan at Total Car Control to all my friends and business colleagues, and indeed have spoken already to numerous of them about the course. I have a feeling that I may be back again at some stage to try and hone my new found skills further once I’ve practiced them in the months ahead. Every time I park the car on the drive, I now want to fire the engine up and go straight back out for a drive! That’s what this course has done for me.

Ploughing money into getting the car of your dreams is one thing, being able to enjoy your investment safely is another. Every male has a gene that makes them think they are “natural born drivers”. That is until, at least, they have had a reality check when something goes wrong.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and, learning from a near miss myself, these are my thoughts on a first-hand experience with Ivan and his team at Total Car Control.

In a nutshell they are AMAZING; they have a unique ability to understand your requirements and driving level and then put their lives in your hands, whilst developing a great approach in teaching High Performance Driving. They break down complex techniques into very simple layers of skills and then overlay them to build you up throughout the training. They look at fundamentals, such as your seating position and driving vision, and then move into advanced skills like trail braking, left foot braking, skid control and, most importantly, relevant safety aspects critical in protecting you and your investment! The team listen to your needs and tailor the training around helping you achieve your goals, whilst YOU do all the driving.

You’d be daft not to do the course if you want to become a safer, more confident driver. Face it, the price of the course as a percentage of the value of your car is peanuts! What a great experience it was to train with Total Car Control at the Millbrook Proving Ground! Ivan helped me learn about and get much more comfortable with my 997 C4S.

He was very knowledgeable about my specific car and all of its various technologies, plus he clearly explained all of the physics of driving to me – and could answer any question.

We did a variety of dynamic exercises to hone different techniques and developed skills that I will use for years to come. I gained a great deal of confidence and felt improvement over the course of our day.

I learnt things I never thought I could do, and other things I always knew the car could do but never had the confidence to try. I am eager to spend more time with Ivan to further improve my knowledge and technique.
