Thank you so much for the 2 days I spent with you, as you know I enjoyed them immensely and hope to get another great day with you in a few months’ time. I enjoyed our day at Millbrook where we explored the Jag XFRS’s handling, especially on the reduced grip surface. It was that there that I turned Traction Control fully off for the first time (although I had played with the TRAC DSC setting a bit) and – under your instruction – found it not as scary as I’d been led to believe. It was very useful being able to use the cars’ ABS to the max in a safe environment on the Mile Straight – those plastic mini-cones don’t know what a lucky escape they had!

As much as I enjoyed Millbrook, I felt more at home on the roads of the second day. That said, what an amazing place Millbrook is and I’m glad that I experienced it in my own car – as you may remember, I had been there twice before on Jaguar’s F-Type marketing days which were certainly a lot “tamer” – I picked up from you a lot of useful information about what the car is trying to communicate to me – although I still contend that given what I paid for the beast, it should do what I want, when I want it!

Your choice of roads for the second day was inspired, as I said at the time I can’t believe such roads still exist. I put into practice the lessons of the previous day and believe my driving is now smoother and more ‘considered’ – if that’s the right word. Ivan, I could go on for ever about how much I enjoyed my time with you, it truly was a “Total Control Masterclass” conducted by a genuine Master of his craft. I’m looking forward to booking more with you in the not too distant future. As others have commented, your course is the best value-for-money improvement anyone can make to their car.

Although I have been advanced police trained, IAM and ROSPA Gold, my driving has been totally transformed since knowing you. I owe you so much. You’re simply explained observations over a sustained period on open roads, country lanes and at Millbrook have led me to become a safer, smoother driver. So, putting male ego aside, what do I think? Well, I think it’s a must for all, even those reading this thinking “I don’t need training, I’m a driving god”. Trust me, whatever standard you are at or think you are at, you will learn so much and get so much more enjoyment out of your Supercar than you thought possible. Millbrook is an absolute treat not to be missed, and the fast road course deals with real life driving situations. Ivan is a great guy and a brilliant instructor, he’s really easy to get on with and has a great manner of advising and guiding so you develop at your own pace. I have no doubt that next time I am out on a run I will be smoother, faster and safer after taking this brilliant course.

It was without any doubt in my mind the best money I’ve spent in quite a long time. The course was a well-structured, comprehensive and flexibly run two days. Apart from being fun, my biggest takeaway was a much greater confidence and appreciation of my C63 AMG by greatly enhancing my ability to balance the car through reading the road and surroundings, and applying forces with greater finesse which really brought the car alive. That is the core of what I wanted to get: we covered and I learned so much more I’d be forever typing this note! The day at Millbrook was just brilliant and the on-road day was very well judged in putting into practice and building confidence on what was learned in the large and diverse confines of Millbrook. It’s unusual for me to give a glowing recommendation to any service provider, but in the case of Ivan (and Total Car Control) I’ve felt the need to break with tradition.

As someone who recently caught the driving bug, and being the owner of my first entry level sports car (Toyota GT86), I wanted to develop my skills to enjoy the car to its potential, and do so in a way that’s safe for both myself and others. I came across Total Car Control and gave Ivan a call. From that time forward I was confident I’d made the right choice; Ivan took the time to understand exactly what I wanted to achieve, and his no pressure approach to offering his services was appreciated. His recommendation of accommodation close to Millbrook was also excellent!

On the day of the course I was nervous, but within minutes of meeting Ivan it was clear just how much of a professional he was – he knew more about my car than I did. We started the day with a conversation where Ivan introduced me to some of the science and theory underpinning Dynamic Handling, and then we hit the road and the fun really started! Over the next 5 hours Ivan took me through cornering, trail braking, planning corners, throttle control, emergency braking and avoidance and high speed driving. His patience as my skills developed through the day was appreciated, and yet at no stage did I feel I was coasting – he really did push me as hard as I was willing to push myself.

By the end of the day I’d driven a car faster than I ever had, more safely than I ever had and importantly, I felt as though I could enjoy my car in a way I never would have done prior to the Dynamic Handling Masterclass. If you’re in any doubt about taking a course with Ivan and TCC, simply ignore the doubt, book the course, and you will have one of the most exhilarating, challenging and empowering experiences behind the wheel you could wish for. The maxim “The best modification you can make to a car is the driver” definitely held true for me.

I contacted Ivan at Total Car Control with a view to improving my car control skills since purchasing an F80 M3. Whilst I love the car it can get a little lively at times and I wanted to learn to control the car better and enjoy it more. Having completed a number of training days over the years with other highly regarded coaches within the industry, I felt it was time to try something a little different.

From the outset Ivan made it clear that the day was all about me achieving what I wanted rather than following a syllabus, and following a phone call the objectives were discussed and a date was agreed at Millbrook. I had been to Millbrook as part of my HPC entry course but this day was much different to my previous experience.

Whilst my main objective of the day was to learn to control oversteer on the limit, we also explored many other aspects of car control to improve my enjoyment and safety; the most enlightening of which was the use of left foot braking, which made a huge difference to the way the car behaved when quickly entering tight corners. The elimination of understeer and improved turn-in which this afforded when done correctly was eye opening; it was almost like having another steering wheel operated by my left foot!

I came away from the day with a lot more confidence and my car control skills are vastly improved. I have also got a number of techniques to work on before my next session. I can’t recommend Total Car Control highly enough and you can rest assured that your needs come first and the whole day is bespoke to you. If you have a high performance car which you would like to get the most from then, in my opinion, Ivan is your man.

I very much enjoyed my two days with Ivan recently on the Total Control Masterclass: the day at Millbrook was particularly memorable and the subsequent road day taught me a lot about my own driving. I’ve long considered myself a reasonable driver with a good awareness of what is happening around me and the ability to drive whatever car I happened to be in smoothly and briskly.

The purchase of an Aston Martin Vantage prompted a bit of a re-think of this position when I realised the car was taking charge and not me. Ivan’s tutoring was something of a revelation both in terms of handling the car and awareness of external factors. I’d read about left foot braking and even half-heartedly tried it on a few occasions but under Ivan’s expert guidance I quickly came to realise the benefits in terms of vehicle balance going into corners, particularly when combined with trail braking; very confidence-building. Sliding about on the low friction area was good fun although I struggled to catch the car once it did let go. I really enjoyed the Alpine Circuit with its combination of hills and bends and of course the big advantage of any circuit driving – nothing coming the other way. The high speed bowl is entertaining, particularly being passed by a couple of McLarens while doing 130 mph.

I’d thought my road day might be a bit of an anti-climax after the excitement of Millbrook but, as always, new skills to learn and techniques to master. A significant emphasis of the road day is awareness of what’s going on outside the car and what you can do to influence it and how it should influence you. I now look even further ahead (and behind) than I ever used to and take far more interest in what’s going on outside the car.

So for anyone considering taking any of these courses – just do it. Keen to do another day sometime next year; I’ll be in touch.

The Dynamic Handling Masterclass was brilliant – just what I was after. I had enjoyed driving the C63 for two years but had never tested the car to anything like its potential, in part because I didn’t have the confidence in my own driving skills.
