Thanks for an immensely enjoyable, stimulating, thought provoking and physically tiring 2 days. I approached the course in a relatively passive way, not sending you a list of demands but expecting to engage with what you felt worked well, prepared to speak out if unhappy. Friends hearing about the course were amazed/appalled that I was driving my own car, but it was an essential part of my learning process that I discovered how to drive my RS4 (moderately) quickly. It would have been much less use overall in a generic fast car.

Millbrook was worth the drive south; the sheer variety of tracks being so much better than would be the case on any race track. The On Road driving circuit on day two was excellent, pleasingly quiet, wide enough for safe overtaking, with interesting surfaces, corners and cambers. Day 2 really worked for me… don’t change a thing. Your style of teaching and presentation works for me, you remained impressively calm throughout the course!

I completed a 2-day Total Control Masterclass course with Ivan at Total Car Control as a four month later follow-up to a Dynamic Handling Masterclass at Millbrook with him. Firstly, more by accident than design I think I stumbled across the perfect way to learn from Ivan. The first session at Millbrook was perfect in undoing bad habits and rebuilding best behaviour. Four months of enthusiastic road driving putting better practice into action in terms of where I was looking, how I was steering and what I was asking from the car at each moment meant that when I came back to see Ivan for the weekend I was building on an incredibly strong foundation.

The Saturday at Millbrook took my dynamic skills to a higher and more consistent level, able to enjoy my car up to the limit of adhesion confidently – and venture beyond when safe and appropriate to do so. The day spent with Ivan on the road taught me new and beneficial skills that have been proven since to enable me to drive smoothly, safely and enjoyably across all types of roads, in all types of weather and get full enjoyment from my car; safely. Ivan brings out the best in you, and gently polishes off the worst in you with a smile and positive encouragement. I can clearly state that I have had a far greater return on investment in what I paid for my car versus enjoyability since my time with Total Car Control. Anyone that spends money on exhausts, wraps etc but not on themselves cannot truly call themselves a car enthusiast. Go and see Ivan. Tomorrow. Or next time he’s free… I understand he’s quite popular…

Thanks again for a fantastic and enlightening day at Millbrook! I have already adjusted my driving position ‎in my other cars and am putting into practice my new skills. The tailored, one-on-one training is what I have wanted to do for some time and although not cheap ‎it really is the only way to learn quickly. I will definitely return for a second session where I hope we can build on the first and complete some ‘over limit’ training.

Your introduction to trail braking was a revelation ‎and I can see how it helps the front of the car into an apex – more practice in this is needed I accept… Fantastic fun blasting around the technical Millbrook circuits in the damp conditions and really increased my confidence and enjoyment of my car. I knew the Boxster GTS has an amazing chassis, but I feel I can now tap further into its breadth of abilities. ‎No doubt you will also be able open my eyes to the M2’s talents next time! I very much enjoyed the Total Control Masterclass and gained a great deal from it. Your style of teaching is easy to assimilate; direct and insistent when necessary but maintaining an easy-going and friendly tone. A primary point I have carried over from your tuition is perhaps basic, but so easily forgotten: to be in a condition of concentration and continual analysis of everything that is happening all around you, and to be aware of how your positive actions can dictate, to a greater extent, a safe conclusion to any given situation.

Going beyond this, the biggest advantage I gained from the course was visual. Your limit point instruction, and linking that to the approach to and exit from bends, has really transformed my driving and increased my enjoyment. I really do now search for the limit point in everyday driving, and another bonus of your course is that thinking about this, plus all the other topics we covered, makes keeping up the level of concentration very easy.

I will definitely return in future for more and will have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone who wishes to advance their driving skillset, and also their enjoyment. Thanks again Ivan, and I will see you in the future.

The Total Car Control training, even after just one day, has completely changed how I think about driving (for the better) and, being fortunate enough to put this to the test on the track at Goodwood a few days later, it definitely improved my track day experience.

Following your training, I found I could drive faster and smoother, and really enjoyed how the Aston handled! I have also been using some of the techniques I learned with you at Millbrook whilst driving on the road, especially things like my hand position, vision (looking further ahead and using a wider field of vision), and thinking about how to better approach bends, plus driving smoother.

I would highly recommend your course to anyone and I have indeed been doing just that! I will be in touch again for more training next year Ivan, and I wish you very well in your business – bravo!

Total Car Control Ltd are top notch trainers. As a female driver wanting to take control of my new car, well I took to the internet for a trainer – as much as my husband is the love of my life and a capable racing driver, I do not follow his instructions well! Total Car Control appeared to be exactly what I was looking for. I wasn’t looking to fly around a track as fast as I could, but wanted to gain real skills that would translate to the road. I wanted to understand how my car reacts when put under pressure and how to handle it in tricky situations. I wanted to understand my car and how best to drive it to get the maximum fun and driving experience from it, safely.

Having once spun a car on a motorway exit at speed as a teenager, I had never really learnt from that experience, more, I had let it define my driving at speed around corners. I can happily say – that is now a thing of the past. From the moment of booking and chatting through my expectations and goals with Ivan, I was counting down the weeks until my course.

The first day at Millbrook was a pivotal day in my driving approach. Millbrook offers both the ability to drive fast, really fast, around a ‘handling’ track plus a hill course that simulates real roads a little more. Ivan’s approach to me being a lady girl racer was spot on. He made me feel at ease, not negative at all, only positive, which in turn brought out the best in my driving abilities. He counselled me through my previous spin-off and helped me recreate it on a safe area at Millbrook. He coached me how to get out of a situation like this again safely – and more importantly gave me the skills to never get myself or my car in that position ever again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Millbrook and to be honest thought, job’s a good un’. I wasn’t really expecting too much from the second day, on road. How wrong I was. Having gained so many skills on day one, taking these and practising them on some amazing roads that Ivan has managed to discover, I just honed them. It was an absolute pleasure to be driving so fluidly and confidently on the roads with Ivan at my side still coaching and guiding. From the start of the day at 9 am to the end at 4pm, the transformation was immense. I might add that the lunch and coffee stops are well refined and the food was delicious too!

In short, if you want to become a more knowledgeable, experienced, safer, more spirited driver (man or woman) that understands and feels more at ease with a powerful car, do not look beyond Total Car Control.

Thanks for a very interesting and stimulating Total Control Masterclass. I have a multitude of thoughts swirling through my head as a result. My longish car journey today was a totally different drive; no autopilot but instead an exercise in safety bubble planning and road awareness. More concentration, certainly safer and a lot more involving (with your imagined comments in my ear as I was driving along). I never realised how bad the general standard of driving was on UK roads and how much I needed to protect myself from it.

I am working on left foot trail braking and steering smoothness (pushing up more than pulling down on the steering wheel) and generally being smoother all round and with vision focus much further ahead. I am still knocked out by the effect of trail braking on front wheel cornering grip. Not much chance for swift driving around London but lots of opportunity for putting other aspects of the learning points into practice.

As to feedback for improving the course, this is really difficult as I think you have it pretty focused as it is. I would like to continue improving as a driver and will be looking to further this with you in the future. I am now a lot less apprehensive of my Bentley GT Speed’s 626 bhp and 2.25 tonnes thanks to you.

My confidence in the California T has increased as I am aware of when it is going to say ‘no’. This is especially true in the rain: I was recently driving on a stretch of road I have done countless times and hit some wet, mushy leaves. Inevitably, the car started to slide across the road, but somehow I felt more calm, more in control. I turned into the skid, recovered the car as it regained grip and continued safely on my way. It harked back to our over-limit work. So yes, your course did help me!

Frankly Ivan, I do not have any criticisms as I found the course entirely professional and very engaging. You do not patronise the learner and made sure you understood just what I wanted out of the course. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you again next year for further coaching.

I have been waxing lyrical about the two day Total Control Masterclass at every opportunity. The course was superb. Just what I needed. After 30 years of ‘disconnected’ driving, it was like a breath of fresh air. Reawakening skills I had long forgotten as well as adding skills I never had previously.

The combination of a day at Millbrook and a day on the open road was particularly useful. I was sceptical at first, as I already considered myself a competent and progressive driver. I most wanted the opportunity to learn the handling characteristics of my new M3 on the test track, but how wrong I was. Not only did I have the chance to feel the dynamic handling of this superb car, I was introduced to safe, smooth, progressive on-road driving. A real eye opener.

Ivan is a really good coach, and knows his stuff. He has a nice relaxed style which makes for a very enjoyable couple of days. I took the opportunity to share this experience with my 20 year old son. It was fantastic to give him an insight into real performance driving in a safe environment, under instruction. He absolutely loved it! Whilst this did dilute my own time on the track, it was well worthwhile.

Not only is this course a ‘must do activity’, it should be compulsory! I shall definitely be back for more; it is sooooo much funnnnnnn!

My expectations were completely surpassed. After taking the time to really understand what I was looking to achieve, Ivan then proceeded to gradually introduce elements of performance driving technique into hot-laps and fast straights.

By the end, I felt more in control of my Ferrari 458 than I ever imagined I would, at speeds I never thought I would achieve, and now really do have a clear idea of the capability of my car.

I cannot wait for my next round of tuition!!
