Total Control Masterclass
Performance Driving Course Review

Some feedback on what has proved to be a very informative and valuable few days. We’ll take it as given that I enjoyed the course. What I liked about you specifically, was that you were there to share your wisdom with me and teach me, rather than tell me how brilliant YOU were. The course was quite clearly about me and my abilities and how they could be improved in a clear and methodical way; unlike almost every other fast driver I have encountered on various corporate race days where it was either all about the car, or how amazing THEY were. You put me very much at my ease, and made it clear from the off that you were only interested in improving me as a driver. You explained things clearly and everything tied into your very informative e-book. I found the e-book very helpful, not only in preparing me for the course, but in revising what I had been shown during each day.

Day 1 was excellent. I enjoyed the tracks, and learning the initial elements of dynamic weight movement and how to control it to my driving advantage were a revelation. It was an exhausting day but a very satisfying one, even if it came with the clear insight that almost everything I had intuitively done over 30 years of driving was wrong, and I would need to do it properly to get the most out of a performance sports car. Day 2 was equally excellent. Correctly identifying that I was unsure about the car, the sessions on the skid pan, the Mile Straight and the emergency lane changing exercises around the High Speed Circuit were truly excellent; building my trust in my SQ7 and the knowledge that Audi had actually engineered a vehicle that would respond to my inputs when asked. At that point I truly crossed the Rubicon and understood that the car was more capable than me. The limiting factor is my inputs… not what the car can do.

From then on, as I expressed at the time, it was like the static had cleared, and I could hear the car talk to me for the first time. The car had always been talking to me… I simply hadn’t heard it. Driving became more of a conversation with my car as we negotiated the various tracks, with a proper conversation developing. Sometimes it whispers, sometimes it shouts… but it never stops telling me something. I just have to listen to it properly. The final laps around the Hill Route were really, really great and cemented the lessons learned so far. It was the first time I had ‘driven’ my car; listening to what it was saying and reacting accordingly before asking it to do something else. I loved the layout of the track, and once again you were really supportive in my learning. I left Day 2 thoroughly enthused… and for the first time, actually looking forward to my forthcoming 911 ownership to DRIVE it, rather than simply have it as a wonderful possession.

Day 3, out on the public roads, was probably the most important because it represented ‘real life’ driving and illustrated how crucial it is that I apply everything you taught me on track properly, without endangering myself or others. Once again, you are a very calm and measured instructor. The lessons that were reinforced during that day will stay with me. It’s every corner; every apex; every pinch point. I am now much more aware of my environment and what other people are doing 😊. Whilst the public roads lack the glamour of Millbrook, this coaching element really is the most important of all, because it will represent 99% of my actual driving. I felt by the end of the day, that I am a much safer and more considerate driver, not only in the manner that I drive personally, but in the way I communicate my intentions to other drivers and ‘travellers’ around me.

I look forward to repeating this course when my 911 finally gets delivered. I will also send my wife in the 911 so that she too can properly enjoy driving it; and as soon as my son has some experience under his belt, he will come as well. You are an excellent instructor, clear in thought and explanation. I trusted you totally. Thank you for everything.
