I contacted Ivan at Total Car Control with a view to improving my car control skills since purchasing an F80 M3. Whilst I love the car it can get a little lively at times and I wanted to learn to control the car better and enjoy it more. Having completed a number of training days over the years with other highly regarded coaches within the industry, I felt it was time to try something a little different.

From the outset Ivan made it clear that the day was all about me achieving what I wanted rather than following a syllabus, and following a phone call the objectives were discussed and a date was agreed at Millbrook. I had been to Millbrook as part of my HPC entry course but this day was much different to my previous experience.

Whilst my main objective of the day was to learn to control oversteer on the limit, we also explored many other aspects of car control to improve my enjoyment and safety; the most enlightening of which was the use of left foot braking, which made a huge difference to the way the car behaved when quickly entering tight corners. The elimination of understeer and improved turn-in which this afforded when done correctly was eye opening; it was almost like having another steering wheel operated by my left foot!

I came away from the day with a lot more confidence and my car control skills are vastly improved. I have also got a number of techniques to work on before my next session. I can’t recommend Total Car Control highly enough and you can rest assured that your needs come first and the whole day is bespoke to you. If you have a high performance car which you would like to get the most from then, in my opinion, Ivan is your man.
